Randall replies to questions on WakeWorld — No Company questions?

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Randy Harris just posted another one of his “Randall Replies” segments on WakeWorld.  He answers two different questions. I was somewhat surprised that neither question referred to his recent move to Company Wake, which is one of the biggest stories so far this season.  Anyways, the second question more than makes up for it by having Randy compare today’s and yesterday’s riders, scene, and overall feel.  Interesting read.

Watson Dethrones Parks in Carnival

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Just last weekend, Parks Bonifay again competed at The Projects on a recently-repaired knee to try to defend his belt a second time. The all-rail competition known as The Carnival, hosted by Pat Panakos brought out all the top rail riders in wakeboarding.

This year’s Carnival had many new rails in addition to all the obstacles from last year. Riders had a wide variety of lines to choose while riding, making the contest even better for the spectators. Shawn Watson used all of the rails to put together some solid runs in each round, making it to the championship bout against defending champion Parks Bonifay. Each rider rode well in the final, and Watson ended up coming out on top showing some great style and control on the rails.

Watson joins Parks Bonifay and Scott Byerly as only the third person to win the championship belt of The Carnival.

WakeWorld California Wildfire Relief Auction - Now in Session!

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Tons of wakeboard products are up for auction for the WakeWorld California Wildfire Relief Auction. All of the proceeds from the auctions go to the American Red Cross Relief fund. This is a good chance to help out some of the people who have been displaced and affected by the California wildfires. It’s also a chance to grab some one-of-a-kind autographed gear.

[Editor's Note: Dave Williams has scrapped their annual Toys For Tots auctions to maximize this relief effort.]

WakeWorld 2007 Rider’s Choice Award Winners

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

The WakeWorld Rider’s Choice awards have grown each year in prestige. Now in it’s seventh year, the Rider’s Choice awards have definitely found it’s place among the top achievements in wake.

While the top spots in Top Woman Wakeboarder and Top Wakeskater remain practically unchanged from the previous year (with Dallas Friday and Brian Grubb on top), some of the other awards saw quite a few changes. Rusty Malinoski jumped 4 spots to become the Top Male Wakeboarder. This achievement also granted him the award for Most Improved Wakeboarder. Also, in their rookie year, Ronix has made a huge impact by knocking Liquid Force off of the top spot of both Wakeboard of the Year and Binding of the Year.

Follow the link to see all of the winners and runner-ups.

The Truth turns 50 or does it?

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The Truth LogoLiquid Force has been churning out their electronic newsletter “The Truth” for some time now. I noticed Wakeworld [externallink] is reporting the 50th edition of The Truth, yet the Liquid Force website claims it is only the 28th edition of their newsletter. After doing a little research, I found that apparently Liquid Force added The Truth to their website in 2006 after already publishing 22 newsletters. So #1 [externallink] on the LF site equals #23 [externallink] on the WakeWorld site and so on.

In The Truth - Number 28 (which happens to really be #50) Liquid Force talks about recent competitions including Wakestock, the Portland Pro Tour stop, and BROstock.

2007 WakeWorld Riders Choice Awards

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Voting for WakeWorld’s Rider’s Choice Awards has begun. Voting will last throughout the month of August. Anybody can vote, which also enters you to win all sorts of stuff from CWB Wakeboards, Proline, Ten-80, and Sidewayz.

Last year, after a five year run Parks Bonifay finally lost his spot as top male wakeboarder by Danny Harf. Amber Wing made her debut on the list of top female wakeboarders at #4, but could be moving on up after gaining fame as the first female to do a 720. Dallas Friday has dominated the female wakeboarders with the top spot since 2001 (the year of the inaugural Riders Choice Awards). Liquid Force cleaned up by taking best wakeboard, bindings, wakesurf board, vest and handle/rope last year and will be looking to pull a repeat this year.
