Orlando, Fla. – In the realm of professional wakeboarding, it may only be the fourth time in history the King of Wake series has crowned a winner for the world’s most elite pro wakeboarding circuit, but for the first time the king is sharing the throne with a female counterpart, the Queen of Wake.
Since its inception in 2005, the King of Wake series has made waves on the water, establishing itself as the most prestigious pro wakeboarding circuit in the world, bringing together the sport’s top events into one ultimate season-long points chase. The King of Wake has proven to be so influential within the sport that in just three years after its inauguration, the mirrored female version, the Queen of Wake series, was created.

In the Pro Men’s Division, five riders battled it out on the water for the national title. Orlando, Fla. – For nearly two decades, female wakeboarders have taken a back seat to men in professional contests, with women’s wakeboarding featured in only a handful of events. But in 2008, female riders will finally have a series to call their own: World Sports & Marketing announced today the new professional women’s wakeboarding series, the Queen of Wake.
“Every year we see an increase in participation by pro female riders, and some of these girls are taking wakeboarding to new levels, pushing the sport to new limits,” said chief judge Chris Bischoff. “We are stoked about featuring pro women’s wakeboarding in their own series because it showcases their incredible athletic abilities and gives women another avenue toward a career in professional sports.”

One of the worlds largest grassroots watersports leagues is having their national championships next week in Louisiana. The INT is a league for wakeboarding, waterskiing, kneeboarding and wakeskating and has been around since 1993. They hold regional events, so if your looking to get involved in the competition scene for yourself, your children or friends this is the place to start. They are known as the little league of watersports but have divisions available for all ages and skill levels.
The national championships is a season ending competition that joins all the qualifying competitors from the different regions together to battle it out for national titles in their respective principles and divisions. This years 10th annual event will have close to 500 competitors for both ski and wake combined to make this the largest competition held each year in the world for watersports. Competition starts on October 10 and finishes on the 13th with an awards banquet and dinner that evening. The event will be held closer to the east coast this year at Bennett’s Ski School in Zachary, LA.
