The title pretty much says it all. Melissa Marquardt will be at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center August 15th [editors note: Hey, that's my birthday!]. She’ll be the to rub elbows with the commoners, and she’ll also be signing autographs, giving advice, and yada yada yada. She’ll also be on some brand-new Liquid Force gear, so it’ll be a good chance for some of you to see the latest LF offerings before the Surf Expo.

The “Ride For Cancer” tour is a collection of wakeboarding events that help spread awareness about cancer. All proceeds from the events go to the American Cancer Society. There are several companies jumping on board for this good cause, and you can help to by attending/supporting the group’s events. The 2008 tour is already halfway over with stops still remaining in Indiana, Wisonsin, Michigan, Kentucky and Florida. For a full list of events and dates you can check out their schedule.

The “Girls Day Out” was created by females for…well…females. Actually it is a cool event that makes wakeboarding more social and less intimidating for the ladies. There are all types of things going on including wakeboard clinics, social gatherings, and even a wakeboarding competition on the final day. This 3-day event starts Friday August 22nd. The guys and gals at Midwest Militia are throwing their 7th annual Boot Camp Wake Tournament & Festival August 1st-3rd. This is one of the biggest grassroots events in the midwest. The event will be held in Ottowa, IL. If you are in the area, you should definitely check it out… There will be all sorts of stuff going on.

Tons of wakeboard products are up for auction for the WakeWorld California Wildfire Relief Auction. All of the proceeds from the auctions go to the American Red Cross Relief fund. This is a good chance to help out some of the people who have been displaced and affected by the California wildfires. It’s also a chance to grab some one-of-a-kind autographed gear.
[Editor's Note: Dave Williams has scrapped their annual Toys For Tots auctions to maximize this relief effort.]

Straight from the grapevine and my connections at UGP comes the premiere of Issue Six from Volume Wakeskate Video Magazine [externallink]. Get the skinny on the party to kick off Halloween and the issue. Dress up is required and a lot of the pros from both wakeboard and wakeskate will be there to support Scott Byerly’s project.
