Canadians rule the final day of Wakestock 2008

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The biggest Canadian wakeboard tournament of the year is in the books, and the hometown boys reclaimed the wakeboard titles from the defending Wakestock champions who were hailing from the US.  Rusty Malinoski defeated the seemingly invincible Phillip Soven in the finals for the Pro Mens Expression Session, while fellow Canadian, Aaron Rathy, took it home on the rails.

The American’s did represent in the wakeskate division though.  Stuart Shinn bested the all-American final which included the likes of Brian Grubb, Reed Hansen, and Danny Hampson.

The men weren’t the only ones on hand as Amber Wing added another impressive win to her increasingly long resume.

Fuel TV to Debut First-Ever Live Webcast

WWA Wakeboard World Championships

Fuel TV is trying to pull off their first live webcast at this year’s WWA Wakeboard Worlds event (September 5-7).  They are claiming tons of preliminary content as well.  The whole webcast (which lasts through the weekend) promises to be over 24 hours long.  Fuel TV is trying to make it an interactive experience by allowing you to email the commentators (Nick and Dano) during the webcast.

The execution of the webcast should be interesting…  I’m not sure how exciting or fresh they can keep this thing.  For anyone that has been to a pro wakeboard event, there is a lot of downtime.  I guess only time will tell, regardless it sure beats waiting for their November 10th telecast.

Watson Dethrones Parks in Carnival

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Just last weekend, Parks Bonifay again competed at The Projects on a recently-repaired knee to try to defend his belt a second time. The all-rail competition known as The Carnival, hosted by Pat Panakos brought out all the top rail riders in wakeboarding.

This year’s Carnival had many new rails in addition to all the obstacles from last year. Riders had a wide variety of lines to choose while riding, making the contest even better for the spectators. Shawn Watson used all of the rails to put together some solid runs in each round, making it to the championship bout against defending champion Parks Bonifay. Each rider rode well in the final, and Watson ended up coming out on top showing some great style and control on the rails.

Watson joins Parks Bonifay and Scott Byerly as only the third person to win the championship belt of The Carnival.
