Titan introduces their innovative bimini – without pictures?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

So Titan has announced their “over-the-top” bimini for their Titan-branded wakeboard boat towers.  The concept seems great, since it allows boat passengers to move back and forth around the boat without having to duck down under the bimini due to decreased head space.  BUT, with the good comes bad…  First off, the higher the bimini, usually the less amount of shade it provides.  Not to mention, what is this thing going to look like?  Am I going to be riding around with a “wart” of a bimini cover of a boat, or is this thing going to look the part?  Since I found no pictures in the press release [which I was reading on wakeboarder.com], I set out to the titan website [titanwake.com] to gawk at the new product.  Of course, I wasn’t able to find any mention of it.  So, my concerns go unanswered.  Funny, when you make a press release about a new product that based purely on new cosmetics, you’d thing you would have a photo or two, huh? If someone from Titan wants to submit some pictures of this sucker, we’ll be more than happy to post them.

Setting a new “Standerd” for wake magazines

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The Standered has moved to a free online format.  This will imiidiately broaden their reader-base, which is obviously why they have jumped to the new business model. The old-school paper-mag version is still available for you kids that don’t want to wait an extra month for the free digital version.  Besides the fact that the paper-version will come out before the free digital version, Standerd is also banking on the collector’s value of the now even more limited edition paper mag to keep subscriptions flowing.

Admittedly I haven’t seen many online magazines, but I can’t imagine the implementation could be any better than the Flash-based viewer that Standerd is using for their online issues.  I found it to be very intuitive, and made browsing the online mags simple and dare I say…fun?

Darin Shaprio video update: Here it is

Monday, August 4th, 2008

OK, well the moment has come and gone…  WBM has released the video, with a lovely embed code [editors note: much appreciated].  I was happy to see that it was vintage Darin riding, and not some impostor trying to ride the “style of the day.”  A few interesting tricks added to the batch.  I had never seen an Orbital 1 before, and thought that was pretty snazzy.  The frontside 5 version wasn’t nearly as pretty, but impressive from a technical standpoint.  The section plays out to “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones.  OK, enough talk…on with the video!

Melissa Marquardt @ Mission Bay Aquatic Center August 15th

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The title pretty much says it all.  Melissa Marquardt will be at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center August 15th [editors note: Hey, that's my birthday!].  She’ll be the to rub elbows with the commoners, and she’ll also be signing autographs, giving advice, and yada yada yada.  She’ll also be on some brand-new Liquid Force gear, so it’ll be a good chance for some of you to see the latest LF offerings before the Surf Expo.

WBM uses Darin Shaprio as bait… And we bite.

WakeboardingMag.com is sending out a video they put together of the legend himself today.  The catch?  They can’t send it to you if they don’t know your email address!  The solution? Join the mailing list, duh! They’ve already got a teaser clip up of Darin that has peaked my attention.

It’s funny how you can hear a song on the radio day in and day out, and you get tired of it…then like 5 years later you hear the song again and it is almost like magic to your ears…  That’s how I’d describe the video clip.  Seeing Shapiro doing a huge front to blind never felt so good.

Check out the teaser clip and join the list here
