Touch-enabled smartphone round-up (with VIDEOS)

An important part of any boater’s arsenal is a good cell phone.  Of course these days it seems any phone just won’t do anymore.  Ever since Apple threw it’s hat into the cell phone arena, people have been flocking to it’s new “touch” interface.  With their newer, faster, and cheaper 3G model now available, and several other worthy contenders now on the market, I figured it was a good time to compare some of the most popular models.  Since we are setting the Apple iPhone as the benchmark, we’ll throw in 2 (almost 3) other phones that have a touch interface into the mix.  The other phones are the Samsung Instinct and the HTC Touch Diamond, which are both Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 smartphones.  The other contender that is still on the outside looking in, is the upcoming “Google-phone” running it’s new Google-developed software called “Android.”  Google hasn’t officially announced a release date yet, but we do have a video of the software running in an almost finalized version.

Samsung Instinct

HTC Touch Diamond

Google Android (Beta Software)

I personally can’t favor any of these phones.  I have been using a T-Mobile Dash for the past few years, and a Blackberry before that.  Tactile feedback is vitale for me, so I’m not sure if I am ready to move to the all-touch interface just yet.  For those of you that aren’t digging touch screens yet either you should check out the upcoming Blackberry Bold…mmm, yummy.
