Boat manufacturers get fancy
Malibu, Moomba, and Supra all just announced special edition boats.
Malibu once again has teamed up with Chevrolet to build a special edition Corvette boat. The boat will be offered with either the LS7 or the legendary Z06 engine package. The good news is that the 512hp Z06 option will be in a wakeboard friendly Sport-V boat, unlike the old Corvette boats they made in the past, which were geared towards smaller-wake skiboats. After inking a longterm deal with the WWA to be the official towboat for the Wakeboarding World Championships, Supra has decided to flaunt their new official towboat title with a World Wakeboard Championship Edition boat. I’m not sure if I’d rather have a Corvette or the Corvette boat.

I think it’s great that manufactures are coming out with limited edition boats, but part of me is scared to think about what this is going to do to the industry in the long run. Boats are already really expensive, and I’ve hard from a few sources the ZO6 Corvette is going to be close to $98,000.
How much longer can boats continue to get more expensive?

Until people stop buying them I guess. I remember when I thought $30k was expensive for a boat, and $45k was borderline ridiculous. I guess the technology behind the boats keep improving, but it still seems like they are really expensive to me.

Middle class Americans are making more money than before, so I guess you’re right, until people stop voting with their wallets, prices will just keep going up.
I think Supra and Moomba are really poised to steal some market share from the big three. As long as they can continue to improve build quality they should be a in a good place.
