Horrell’s ride was stolen

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Alliance [externallink] is reporting on their homepage that Thomas Horrell’s 1991 Jeep has been stolen. Apparently the 300,000 mile beast was taken in broad daylight in front of his Miami residence. The picture below is not Thomas’ ride, but it is roughly the same year, make, model and color of his Jeep.

Leslie Kent Sighting

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Professional Wakeboarder Leslie KentWhile we were walking around covering surf expo we had a rare sighting of long time professional wakeboarder Leslie Kent. Leslie was a stand out womens rider for years and was know for her “ride like a guy” style. She faded off the scene a couple years ago and started her own jewelry company which has always been an interest for her. Strangely enough she was there working for one of her sponsors, Sector Nine Skateboards, and did mention that she was interested in getting more involved again. It would be nice to see her give the girls a good push again like she did back when she was fully involved and winning contests.

Bonifay and Murray come up big at Parks’ Double Or Nothing comp.

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Parks Bonifay’s “Double Or Nothing” competition, arguably the biggest double-up competition of the year, has brought out the best in wakeboarding’s elite once again. The DON comp showcases the most technical tricks and biggest airs in the wake industry. This year’s event proved no different with 20 of the top riders going for it all with 1080, backside 900 and double back roll to blind attempts.

When the waters calmed down and the boats were back on shore, it turned out that Shane Bonifay came out on top for the Best Trick award with his Toeside Backside 720 [video of Shane previously doing this trick after the break]. Shaun Murray did edge out Shane though with the Biggest Air award. Shaun’s Air Raley was up in the air for 53.5 video frames, which is roughly 2 seconds of air time.
