Alliance [externallink] is reporting on their homepage that Thomas Horrell’s 1991 Jeep has been stolen. Apparently the 300,000 mile beast was taken in broad daylight in front of his Miami residence. The picture below is not Thomas’ ride, but it is roughly the same year, make, model and color of his Jeep.

The Book Wakeskate Instructional DVD box set has dropped in price. The once hefty $70 set has now been reduced to $54.99. The packaging and contents all remain the same. The set is still over 4 hours long, and still contains all three of their wakeskate DVD titles (Wakeskate Basics, Intermediate Tricks, and Advanced Tricks).
The price change should be reflected at your favorite wake DVD retailer shortly (if it hasn’t already), or you can go directly the manufacturer’s website [externallink].
To see sample chapters, go to their video page [externallink].

While we were walking around covering surf expo we had a rare sighting of long time professional wakeboarder Leslie Kent. Leslie was a stand out womens rider for years and was know for her “ride like a guy” style. She faded off the scene a couple years ago and started her own jewelry company which has always been an interest for her. Strangely enough she was there working for one of her sponsors, Sector Nine Skateboards, and did mention that she was interested in getting more involved again. It would be nice to see her give the girls a good push again like she did back when she was fully involved and winning contests.

Parks Bonifay’s “Double Or Nothing” competition, arguably the biggest double-up competition of the year, has brought out the best in wakeboarding’s elite once again. The DON comp showcases the most technical tricks and biggest airs in the wake industry. This year’s event proved no different with 20 of the top riders going for it all with 1080, backside 900 and double back roll to blind attempts.
When the waters calmed down and the boats were back on shore, it turned out that Shane Bonifay came out on top for the Best Trick award with his Toeside Backside 720 [video of Shane previously doing this trick after the break]. Shaun Murray did edge out Shane though with the Biggest Air award. Shaun’s Air Raley was up in the air for 53.5 video frames, which is roughly 2 seconds of air time.

Vests, vests and more vests! Oh wait, and some ropes and handles too. The Helium Booth gave surf expo the impression that they only want a piece of the vest market with wall to wall coverage and a broad selection of Mens and Womens vests made of different materials and styles.

Surf Expo wasn’t the only thing going on this past weekend. WakeBoarding Magazine’s 4th annual Wake Awards took place this past Friday immediately following the first day of Surf Expo at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.
The event started off with some industry recognition awards like Manufacturer of the Year and Retailer of the Year before moving on to the main 13 awards known as The Wake Awards.
Rusty Malinoski and Brian Grubb took the top spots as Best Wakeboarder and Best Wakeskater. Move of the Year was no big surprise with Chad Sharpe taking it with his sick Double Indy Toeside Back Roll. Best Women’s Rider put Amber Wing on top once again, adding another accolade to add to her impressive resume.
To check out all 13 winners, follow the story link below
